This piece is composed of two distinct elements united in a single work: a bowl chased with the eight manifestations of Ashta Lakshmi — the goddess in her forms of wealth, courage, grain, patience, progeny, victory, knowledge, and satisfaction — and a base recreating an award-winning heritage stand design, reworked in silver by Burmese silversmiths.
The base is where the piece departs from convention. Rather than a plain plinth, it is ringed by dancing Nats — the spirit-guardians of Burmese belief — sculpted fully in three dimensions rather than chased in relief, so the figures stand free of the surface, caught mid-movement around the stand's circumference. It's a rare instance of two distinct devotional and artistic traditions, Indian and Burmese, sharing a single object without either being diminished.
What makes this tall piece particularly significant is its origin: the base design itself has already been recognised for its craftsmanship at a museum level, and its recreation in this form — paired with the Ashta Lakshmi bowl — is a deliberate act of cultural fusion, not a decorative pairing. Each half speaks its own tradition; together, they form something neither could alone.
