Our Philosophy

Every house is built on a belief. Ours is that silver, given the time and care it
deserves, belongs among the world's finest heirlooms.

We believe every object should earn its place. Before a piece is imagined,
designed, or crafted, we ask ourselves a simple question: Does it truly
deserve to exist? If the answer isn't an unequivocal yes, we don't make it.

Everything that bears the PATAIN name begins with intention. Thoughtful design,
uncompromising craftsmanship, and an unwavering respect for the hands that
shape every creation guide every decision we make.

To us, the finest objects are those that become part of everyday life. They gather
stories around the table, mark life's celebrations, honour traditions, and are
passed from one generation to the next. Their true value lies not only in what
they are made of, but in what they come to mean.

Our Story

Every house has an origin. Ours began with a single object.

A Burmese Thabiek bowl, presented to Tasneem Goenka on her wedding day,
was more than a ceremonial gift. It carried centuries of craftsmanship,
cultural memory, and the enduring legacy of Burmese silversmithing.

It sparked a curiosity that lingered long after the wedding.

Determined to understand the artistry behind the bowl, Tasneem and Lokesh immersed themselves in the history of Burmese silver, its traditions, and the remarkable craftsmen who had preserved this heritage across generations. That journey eventually led them to seek out master Burmese artisans and traditional
workshops, laying the foundation for what would become PATAIN.

Working alongside master silversmiths, they witnessed techniques that had been passed
down from one pair of hands to the next with extraordinary care. While language
often stood between designer and craftsman, sketches became their shared
vocabulary. Through drawing, refining, and creating together, ideas travelled
where words could not.

What began as a search for understanding gradually became a shared vision. Those
relationships with artisans, built on mutual respect, trust, and a love for
craftsmanship, gave shape to the House of PATAIN.

Today, PATAIN continues to honour that journey, bringing together the enduring heritage of Burmese craftsmanship with a design language created for the contemporary Indian home.

Craftsmanship & Heritage

Craftsmanship begins long before silver meets the hands of an artisan.

It begins with an idea. A sketch. A conversation.

When Tasneem and Lokesh first began working with Burmese silversmiths, language often stood between designer and craftsman. Sketches became their shared
vocabulary, allowing ideas to move freely between cultures, traditions, and
generations.

Those first drawings marked the beginning of a creative partnership that continues to
define PATAIN today. Contemporary forms are imagined in India and brought to life through the extraordinary skill of master artisans in Burma, whose craft has been passed down through generations.

Every creation passes through countless moments of refinement. Proportions are
reconsidered. Details are revisited. Finishes are perfected. Nothing is rushed, because craftsmanship is measured not by speed, but by care.

For us, heritage is not something to preserve
behind glass. It is something to honour by allowing it to evolve, one creation at a time.

Naina Goenka

The Heart of the House

The values that shape PATAIN were shaped long before the House itself. Deeply rooted in the philosophy of Vipassana, Naina Goenka serves as a Trustee of the Dhamma Pattana Vipassana Trust and several other meditation centre trusts under the Vipassana Foundation. A lifelong commitment to service, discipline, and mindful living has quietly influenced not only her own journey, but the values upon which PATAIN was built. As Co-Founder and Managing Director, she has played an integral role in shaping the House from its earliest days. Her unwavering belief in craftsmanship, patience, and purpose continues to guide every chapter of PATAIN's journey. If PATAIN has a mother, it is her.

Lokesh Goenka

The Keeper of Heritage

For Lokesh Goenka, PATAIN is the coming together of two cultures that have shaped his life. His family's roots in Burma and enduring connection to India gave him an appreciation for heritage, craftsmanship, and the stories that travel across generations. Those values became the foundation for a House that honours tradition while continually reimagining it for the present. As a Trustee of the Global Vipassana Foundation, the Vipassana Research Institute, and the Sayagyi U Ba Khin Trust, Lokesh continues a family legacy of service and cultural stewardship. At PATAIN, he has played an integral role in building enduring relationships with master artisans, preserving remarkable traditions, and shaping a House where heritage is not simply remembered, but carried forward through every creation.

For Tasneem Goenka, design begins with intention. Every creation at PATAIN starts as an idea, explored through sketches, refined through conversation, and shaped with patience until every detail feels instinctively right. It is a process guided as much by curiosity as it is by discipline, where proportion, material, and craftsmanship are considered in equal measure. Working closely with master artisans, Tasneem approaches every collection with a deep respect for heritage while embracing the possibilities of contemporary design. Rather than recreating the past, she seeks to give it new expression, creating objects that feel timeless, purposeful, and deeply personal. For Tasneem, design is an exercise in balance, where beauty and function, tradition and innovation, structure and emotion find quiet harmony.
